Winter Park Garden Club Planting seeds, Growing community |
Who We Are
About Us
In 1922, The Winter Park Garden Club was one of the first garden clubs to be founded in the State of Florida. Our first president, Grace Osborne Edwards, along with the board established the goals of promoting gardening and beautifying the City of Winter Park.
Shortly after in 1924, The Winter Park Garden Club was one of four charter clubs that organized the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs. Within the current structure of the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, we proudly belong to District VII. And just a few years after that, Florida was a charter member of National Garden Clubs, Inc when it was founded in 1929. Within the current structure of National Garden Clubs, Inc, we are members of the Deep South Region. National Garden Clubs, Inc is now the largest garden club organization in the world!
Throughout the years, the Winter Park Garden Club has broadened its goals to also:
- Protect and conserve our natural resources
- Promote civic beautification
- Encourage the improvement of roadsides and parks
- Encourage the establishment of botanical gardens, arboreta, and horticultural centers
- Assist deserving students through college scholarships in scientific fields of study
- Instill in our youth the love of gardening and respect for and protection of the environment through FFGC’s Wekiva Youth Camp
We hope to inspire appreciation of the natural world in all who join us, no matter your level of experience!
